Packing smart is really important for a smooth and fun time on the slopes, making sure you are warm and stylish while your dog feels comfy for his first mountain adventure. Your travel outfit matters depending on how you’re getting there. Flying? Wear your bulkiest clothes on the plane to save luggage space. When I’ve driven to the mountains, I’ve dressed comfortably and kept cold-weather gear handy for arrival.
Consider renting skis, a helmet, and boots at your destination—they’re often available at ski resorts. Leaving bulky gear at home might be a good call unless you’ve got extra space in your bags.
Essentials Packing List For A Ski Trip
Stylish Ski Apparel
There’s a diverse selection of ski apparel available across retailers. Still, I think the most high-quality, luxurious, and stylish ones are from Revolve (they carry multiple brands), Perfect Moment, Goldbgerh, and Moncler.
If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly, stylish, yet reasonably-priced option, consider brands like ASOS and H&M.
Ski Jumpsuit
Finding the perfect ski jumpsuit can be a game-changer. It’s not just about staying warm and comfortable; it’s also about making a statement while effortlessly gliding down the mountainside.
Not into onsies? Opt for a stylish ski jacket paired with waterproof pants.
Ski Jacket
An absolute essential for any mountain adventure is a reliable jacket. Whether skiing or wandering around town, a cozy and insulated jacket is a must to ward off the chill.
Ski Pants
Crucial for skiing are waterproof pants that don’t sacrifice warmth or bulkiness. Various options are available that offer both insulation and mobility.
Lightweight Jacket
Mastering the art of layering is crucial when prepping for the mountains. A lightweight jacket is an ideal addition over your base layers, offering added warmth while allowing easy removal if you feel overheated during skiing.
Layering Basics
Even with top-notch outerwear, synthetic or wool base layers are essential to stay snug while skiing. It allows you to adapt to changing temperatures and stay comfortable during outdoor activities.
Packing a few thermal long-sleeve shirts and a couple of sports leggings is wise. Base shirts work wonders beneath sweatshirts, lightweight jackets, or sweaters, while leggings provide added warmth under ski pants. Numerous brands offer cost-effective options for these indispensable basics.
Fashionable Ski Accessories
Don’t forget to pack a trendy beanie, stylish goggles, waterproof gloves, and a fashionable scarf. These accessories keep you stylish and provide warmth and protection from the cold.
Most importantly, keep your feet warm! For socks, choose thick, moisture-wicking ones and avoid cotton.
What to Pack for Après-Ski
Après-ski, which translates to ‘after ski’ in French, is the relaxed and social time post-slopes. Dress codes in ski towns tend to be laid-back, so there isn’t a need to bring any fancy outfits. Here are my tips on what to pack for your after-ski moments.
Sweater
Cozy up in knit sweaters for your après-ski look. Ski towns are the perfect backdrop for these stylish picks, whether it’s fair-isle or cable knits. From budget-friendly options at H&M to luxurious cashmere finds on REVOLVE, there’s a variety to explore.
Pick a couple of favorites to save luggage space and layer them over base tees for versatile styling and more room in your suitcase.
Casual Pants
Black skinny jeans are definitely more stylish than a pair of blue jeans! It really suits any post-ski activity.
However, faux leather fleece-lined leggings from Spanx are my go-to pants for après-ski. They are incredibly comfortable, and since I always bring my Siberian Husky on trips, it’s excellent at repelling dog hair!
A pair of regular fleece lined leggings are great to wear with Uggs around the resort.
Snow Boots
Even if you rent ski boots at the resort, owning a pair of lightweight snow boots is smart for après-ski activities. Look for water-resistant ones to keep your feet warm and dry. My go-to brand for snow boots is Sorel, which is for walking around town and trekking through a lot of snow.
I also love wearing a pair of Uggs for walking around the resort. Both brands are affordable and go well with my après-ski outfits.
Swimsuit
Relaxing in a hot tub or sauna is the perfect way to cap off a day in the mountains, so bring a swimsuit! Certain ski resorts feature spas and indoor pools, so it’s wise to carry a swimsuit just in case. If so, they will provide a cozy robe for going in and out of the hot tub or sauna at chilly temperatures.

Essential Toiletries to Pack For a Ski Trip
In addition to your clothes and accessories, don’t forget your daily toiletries when packing for your ski trip. Here are some essential toiletries specifically for your mountain adventure.
Sunscreen and SPF Limp Balm
Even in winter, sunscreen is important for your skin. UV rays can hurt your skin, so bring sunscreen and other products with SPF. My favorite sunscreen for the mountains is Supergoop.
Your lips can also get burned, so use a lip balm with SPF to protect them.
Moisturizer
The air up in the mountains and the rough weather can dry your skin. I use a hydrating cleanser and a thick lotion or cream on my face to take care of my skin before and after spending a lot of time outside.
In the evening, I also use a hydrating sheet mask.
Don’t forget to bring some moisturizer for your hands and body. Your ski resort usually provides face and hand cream, but I often find the products too heavily scented, so I bring my own instead.
Essential Packing List For Your Dog’s Mountain Adventure
Warm Dog Apparel:
Get your dog a warm and comfy coat for snowy trips. Make sure it fits well and lets them move easily. I have a Siberian Husky, and he has a thick double coat, so a jacket isn’t needed for him.
Harness
Protective Paw Wax
Consider applying paw wax or protective booties to shield your dog’s paws from the cold and harsh conditions. This helps prevent ice buildup and keeps their paws safe. Our go-to is Musher’s Paw Wax.
Collapsible Water and Food Bowls
Don’t forget a sturdy leash for walks and easily portable collapsible bowls for your dog’s food and water. These accessories are convenient for on-the-go moments.
Comfort Items
Bring things your dog loves, like toys, blankets, or their bed, so they feel comfortable and at home during your mountain trip.
GPS Tracker and Apple Air Tags
No matter where I go with my pup Gatsby, he wears a GPS tracker, and I also have an Apple air tag on him just in case the GPS tracker runs out of battery. Accidents happen. You never know when your dog may slip out of a collar or harness and get lost in the mountains. A GPS tracker and an Apple Air Tag will be your only way to track them.
Medical First Aid Kit & Sling
You are miles away from home and up on the mountains. What happens if somehting happens to your dog? Are you even close to an animal hospital? First Aid Kits are a must. And just in case your dog is badly injured, a sling is needed to carry your pup back to the resort before getting medical help.
