Have you ever been to a museum with your dog? It’s not every day we get to experience that with our pups. Luckily, the only dog-friendly museum in NYC that allows pet dogs is the AKC Museum of The Dog. Gatsby and I were invited to visit the museum; it was such a memorable night! If you’re in the NYC area and want to explore the museum with your dog, here’s what you can expect on your visit.
When are dogs allowed to visit the museum?
Dogs can only visit the AKC Museum of the Dog on Furry Fridays, which is held twice a month from 6-8pm. To see when is Furry Friday, check out the museum’s calendar of events.
Purchase your tickets in advance
Tickets are $20 per adult and $5 per dog. Reservations are required to attend Furry Fridays, and they sell out quickly, so purchase them early!
You’ll also be required to sign a waiver upon entry.
How to get to the AKC Museum of the Dog
Located at 101 Park Ave, the museum’s entrance is on East 40th Street.
By Subway: Take the S, 4, 5, 6, 7 train to Grand Central Station.
If you’re driving into the city, you can park in a garage beneath the museum building, or there are few garages on 39th street.

Make sure you stop by the museum shop. They have the cutest souvenirs to bring home or pick up a gift for the dog lover in your life.
I had to pick up a small art piece from a local NYC artist and children’s illustrator, Kristin Doney. Her artwork is a must-buy if you love dogs and New York City!
Visiting the AKC Museum with your dog is an experience you’ll never forget
There was so much to see and learn in the AKC Museum of the Dog, and I wish I had more time to spend here! We found out that there was a sled dog exhibition a few years ago, so it’s too bad, Gatsby, and I missed that!
We look forward to visiting again to check out their next exhibit. Will you experience this dog-friendly museum in NYC? I bet it’s an experience you and your pup will never forget!
Let me know in the comments below which exhibit you were able to check out and what was your favorite art piece in the museum. Mine was “Silent Sorrow” by Maud Earl where it showed so much emotion of King Edward’s dog Caesar as he mourns his master.
