With the warmer weather now, I’m sure many of you will want to go on a road trip with your pup. After a year of staying at home and not being able to travel, I’m looking forward to finally taking a break with Gatsby so we can get out and explore! We’re thinking of beautiful dog-friendly beaches, a picturesque town, lush green forests, or even hiking up to see beautiful panoramic mountain views.
When we take a long road trip (like our trip to Canada) it takes careful preparation to make sure Gatsby has everything he needs to be content, comfy, and safe while we are away from home. I’m sharing my list of dog travel road trip must-haves for your next trip with your pup.
If you’re looking for tips on road trips with your dog, I have a detailed blog post here. Where do you plan on road tripping to? Let me know in the comments! Have fun and safe travels!!
Dog Travel Must-Haves For Your Next Road Trip
- Adventure Medical Kits Me & My Dog – This emergency kit should be kept in your car, not only when you decide to go on a road trip. We keep this in our car ALL the time. The kit comes with medical supplies for you AND your pup.
- RUFFWEAR Dog Gear Bag – Yes! Gatsby has his own travel bag and I absolutely love it. It’s big enough to carry all of his must-haves, has a nice wide opening to easily load and unload his stuff, it’s waterproof and durable too.
- Copper Paws Co.’s Name Tag – You guys NEED to check out their adventure series name tags. They are hand-stamped, super cute, and YES, it’s a must-have! The “Renner” name tag is my favorite.
- PetSafe Fitted Back Seat Covers – If you have a Siberian Husky like me, any time you get in the car with your pup, this fitted seat cover is another must-have. It helps prevent bringing mud and fur all over our back seats. It’s quilted, comfy, and machine washable.
- Whistle Go Explore Pet GPS and Health Tracker – You’ll see this device on Gatsby in every photo, except when he’s at home. This is the “Find your iPhone” and “Fit Bit” in one device for your dog! Imagine your pup got loose on a road trip and ran away?! (I CAN’T ?) With this device, you’ll be able to track your pup’s location, as well as their health and fitness 24/7. This device also has a super bright light and has been great for walking around the campgrounds at night.
- Ultra Absorbent Quick Dry Microfiber Pet Towel – Drying your pup will take half the time with these super absorbent pet towels.
- Musher’s Paw Wax – Rub this paw wax on right before you guys head on your road trip adventure. It acts like an Invisible boot forming a breathable shield against sand, hot pavement, snow & salt, so your dog can mush, hike, hunt, or play safely in any conditions.
- RUFFWEAR Harness – A perfect harness for your pup’s adventure! It’s lightweight and has reflective trimming so others see him in the dark. We usually hook up Gatsby’s seatbelt attachment to his harness. I HOPE you guys have a seatbelt attachment for your pup?! If not, get one ASAP. Accidents happen!
- Yetti Bowl – Our favorite travel dog bowl! It’s rust-resistant and tough enough to handle any dents.
- Yetti Cooler – If you cook real food for your pup or feed them raw, then you’re going to need a cooler to keep the meats cold. This cooler has worked the best for us and we even used it for our week-long trip to Canada.
- Portable Water Dispenser – So convenient for the car, hiking and traveling. It’s so easy to give your pup water and most importantly it’s BPA-free.
