The Newbury Boston: A Luxurious Dog Friendly Stay Making You Forget You’re Miles Away from Home

The charming city of Boston just keeps me coming back. I always plan a trip here with my pup, Gatsby, every chance I get! During the Thanksgiving holiday long weekend, we stayed at The Newbury Boston. The hotel combines luxurious, sophisticated vibes with a warm embrace toward quests with dogs, creating such an elegant and dog-friendly atmosphere. Let’s find out why The Newbury Boston should be at the top of your list, especially if you’re traveling with your pup.

The Epitome of Modern Luxury

The Newbury Boston is a part of the Leading Hotels of the World with a history of being one of the first Ritz-Carlton hotels in the United States, opening in 1927. Fast forward to now, the hotel is a newly restored historic property with rooms overlooking the Boston Public Garden and the Back Bay neighborhood. Ultra-chic and upscale shopping with designer stores is just a step away. Step into the lobby, and you’ll find curated walls of art and a portrait of Ernest Hemingway.

Stunning Accommodations

We stayed at the Classic Corner Park View Suite, which was truly stunning! With a soothing color palette of blue, gray, cream, and gold hues, the suite featured a spacious sleeping and living area, a wood-burning fireplace, a king-sized bed with Simmons Beautyrest Black® Mattress, a Nespresso maker, Frette bathrobes, and luxurious Bespoke Byredo bath products.

Of course, Gatsby’s favorite was the view of Boston Public Garden, where he would sit by the window all morning for some birds and people watching.

Dog-Friendly Atmosphere and Stylish Amenities

As soon as we stepped into the lobby during check-in, the staff was already waiting to welcome Gatsby with open arms.

The suite had stylish food and water bowls with natural spring water waiting for him. There was a beautiful plushy bed, but Gatsby preferred to sleep on the large, comfy sofa.

A maximum of two dogs in a room is permitted, and there is an additional $100.00 (non-refundable) cleaning pet fee per stay. Dogs cannot be left alone in the rooms.

Dog Sitting Services

The Newbury Boston primarily works with Steph’s City Strolls, a premier dog walking and boarding company in Boston. The rate is $75 per hour with a minimum of 3 hours.

The Fireplace Suite Experience

I can’t think of anything more relaxing than spending a cold New England night with your pup in front of a wood-burning fireplace! Imagine the aroma of the wood and the soothing crackle!

The Fireplace Suite experience offers guests a curated menu of wood types – Birch, Cherry, Oak, or Maple. Once you choose the wood type, the Fireplace Butler will skillfully set the fire, creating a cozy night to unwind after a long day exploring the city.

We chose the long-lasting fragrance of cherry wood, ordered some in-room dining, and enjoyed some wine and desserts in front of the fireplace with Gatsby.

Dining and Drinks

While we didn’t get to try out the restaurants (I didn’t want to leave Gatsby behind), here are two dining options in the hotel.

Contessa: Boston’s Trendiest Dining Destination at the Rooftop

Contessa, located at the hotel’s rooftop, is THE Restaurant to dine in. They serve up Northern Italian dishes, aperitivo martinis, and amazing desserts. The hotel staff let us know that it sometimes books up weeks in advance. So make sure you call to make reservations!

The Street Bar

The Street Bar is gorgeous and the ultimate hotel social spot, welcoming guests from early morning to late into the night. Stop by for breakfast and try their all-day menu, classic cocktails, or small bites in the evening.

Note: Unfortunately, your pup is not allowed in any food establishments, so this is a good time to call the concierge and ask them to help you arrange dog-sitting services.

A Curated Breakfast in Your Suite

Picture this: waking up in the luxurious comfort of your suite, and the first thing that greets you is a curated breakfast spread. As you open the door, you have the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the sight of a beautifully arranged assortment of pastries, fresh fruits, and juice with a bit of every breakfast item, from flaky croissants to artisanal yogurt parfaits topped with local honey.

Enjoying this amazing breakfast while relaxing in your comfy suite is the best way to start your day at The Newbury!

The Library

The Newbury Boston Library Dog Friendly Boston Hotel

The Library at Newbury is a nice spot for some quiet moments alone or a place to lounge in. Step through the doors for an elegant ambiance and shelves lined with a curated collection of books. The plush armchairs and soft lighting create an atmosphere of calmness, inviting you to unwind with a good read or sip on a cocktail.

Gatsby and I had the chance to enjoy some quiet moments at The Library during off-peak hours. However, before bringing your furry friend along, it’s best to get permission from the management team first as a courtesy.
