Montreal in the fall is pure magic. As the leaves change to vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows, the city comes alive with crisp air and cozy vibes, making it the perfect destination for a getaway with your pup. From dog-friendly hotels to scenic parks, patios, and walking trails, here’s how you and you pup can make the most of dog friendly Montreal in autumn.
Requirements For Traveling To Montreal With Your Dog
You must bring proof of current rabies vaccination and a health certificate from your vet to travel to Canada with your dog.
Tips for Visiting Montreal with Your Dog in the Fall
- Pack Layers: Fall in Montreal can get chilly, especially in the mornings and evenings. Bring a sweater for yourself and maybe even a jacket for your dog if they’re sensitive to cold weather.
- On-Leash Policy: Most public spaces in Montreal require dogs to stay on-leash, so pack a comfortable leash and harness.
- Enjoy the Festivals: Fall is festival season in Montreal! Look out for street fairs, art markets, and food events—many of which are pet-friendly.
Where to Stay: Hotel Monville
Hotel Monville is the perfect dog friendly hotel to stay at. This chic and modern, dog-friendly hotel goes above and beyond for both you and your pup. There’s a $55 CAD pet fee, and they provide bowls and beds to make sure your dog feels just as pampered as you do.
The hotel’s sleek design, rooftop views, and central location put you right in the heart of the city, meaning you’re just a short walk from parks, cafés, and attractions. After a day of exploring, your pup will appreciate the comfy accommodations—and you’ll love unwinding with a glass of wine at the hotel’s cozy lounge.
We stayed at the Monville Suite, which featured a king sized bed, luxurious bath robes, clean bath products, floor to ceiling windows and gorgeous views of the city.
Hotel Monville offers a breakfast package, which was perfect for us. You can either dine downstairs at their Moneme restaurant or have breakfast delivered to your room by the custest robot!
Dog-Friendly Things to Do in Montreal in the Fall
Explore Mont Royal Park
A trip to Montreal isn’t complete without visiting Mont Royal Park. In the fall, the trails are blanketed with colorful leaves, offering breathtaking views of the city and St. Lawrence River. The park is very dog-friendly, with plenty of space for your pup to roam on-leash. Head to the lookout point for an incredible panorama and snap some photos of the autumn foliage.
Tip: Bring some treats for your dog to enjoy at the summit while you sip on a hot chocolate from a nearby vendor.
Take A Stroll At Lachine Canal National Historic Site
Lachine Canal National Historic Site offers a fantastic day out with your pup. The canal’s been around since 1825, helping ships navigate through the St. Lawrence River.
You’ll find restaurants and cafés all along the canal, where some may have outdoor terraces with heating lamps. There are plenty of trails here to explore, too.
Location: Prom. du Vieux-Port, Montréal, QC H3C 1Y5, Canada
Stroll Through Old Montreal
Take a leisurely walk through Old Montreal, where cobblestone streets and historic architecture create the perfect backdrop for an autumn stroll. Many shops and art galleries welcome well-behaved dogs inside, and outdoor patios offer a spot to grab a coffee or pastry.
If your pup enjoys people-watching, make a stop at Place Jacques-Cartier, a lively square filled with street performers and vendors. It’s a great spot to enjoy the crisp fall weather while your dog soaks up all the attention from passersby.
Visit La Grande Roue de Montréal
Head to Old Port and take a photo with your pup at the famous La Grande Roue de Montréal. There are places to eat and lot of souvenir shops around the area.
Grab a Bite at Montreal’s Ultimate Dog-Friendly Café: Ruby Café
Ruby Café located just 15 minutes away from Hotel Monville is a MUST VISIT! Your pup can literally sit next to you while you dine. They have a great food menu for dogs and humans. We got the puppy pancakes, yogurt parfait, and french fries. We ordered Gatsby meatballs and bone broth.
Aside from the kitchen menu, there are plenty of healthy treats, dog toys and other products for purchase.
Reservations are needed and make sure to book ahead. They get booked extremely quick!
Doggieville MTL: A Luxury Dog Daycare In Montreal
If you decide on doing a non-dog-friendly activity, Doggieville MTL is the ultimate luxury dog daycare in Montreal to take your pup if you need someone to watch them for a few hours. They charge $40 for five hours and $50 for a full day (This is also where Ruby Cafe is located).
Requirements for dog daycare at Doggieville MTL:
You must register your pup on their website and make a reservation. On the booking site, you’ll need to create and account, fill in a meet and greet form, and tell them more about your pup! You can also upload all the vaccination proofs and make your reservation directly on your profile.
- All dogs must be current on the following vaccinations: Bordetella, DA2PP, and Rabies.

Restaurants That Are a Must Try
During our trip this Fall, my husband and I dined at two restaurants (without Gatsby) that are a must try! The first is Le 409, which is an elevated Indian dining cuisine and experience. Their bar area is gorgeous and the ambience was perfect for an intimate dinner.
We shared the Chana Samosa. I ordered the Poulet Tikka Masala and the Saag Paneer for my husband. The mocktails were also amazing!
The next restaurant that’s a must try will be Holder which serves up french cuisine. They did not disappoint! The salmon tatare with yogurt and mujjol caviar was excellent. My husband ordered the grilled hanger steak and I had the classic duck confit.
I already want to go back to Montreal just to eat at these two restaurants again and try out many others!
