Dog-Friendly Activities

Hiking Trails

The Catskills boast stunning trails, and many are dog-friendly! Here are the most dog-friendly hiking trails in the Catskills.

  • Overlook Mountain: Take a 5.6-mile hike near Woodstock for awesome views from the top. You’ll see old hotel ruins and a cool fire tower up there.
  • Kaaterskill Falls: This 2.6-mile hike shows off one of New York’s tallest waterfalls. You can find it near Route 23A. The falls have two parts and are really impressive!
  • Pratt Rock: Take a 3.1-mile hike near Prattsville off Route 23. You’ll find Pratt Rock, kind of like New York’s Mount Rushmore, honoring settler Zaddock Pratt.
  • Diamond Notch Falls: This 2.2-mile hike (or 4-mile loop) on Spruceton Road in Lexington leads to Diamond Notch Falls, also called West Kill Falls.
  • Windham Path: Accessible from Route 23 in Windham, this 1.5-mile loop offers a pleasant stroll.
  • Windham High Peak via Burnt Knob: Hike 7 miles with amazing mountain views, starting from Big Hollow Road in Maplecrest. Dogs are allowed off-leash here.
  • Ashokan Rail Trail: 11.5-mile scenic flat paved trail hugs the Ashokan Reservoir and offers fantastic views!

Dog Parks

Visit dedicated dog parks such as Kingston Point Dog Park or Colonel’s Chair Dog Park for off-leash fun and socialization.

Another option is staying at Emerson Resort and Spa to enjoy their fenced-in dog park on the property.

Dog-Friendly Breweries

Enjoy a pint and some good food with your pup at dog-welcoming breweries like:

  • West Kill Brewing
  • Catskill Brewery
  • Subversive Malting & Brewing

Dog-Friendly Cafe and Bar

Rough Draft Bar & Books, Kingston NY

Head over to the town of Kingston, and you’ll find a dog-friendly cafe, bar, and a bookstore- Rough Draft Bar and Books.

Plenty of seats are available, and it’s such a great spot to lounge around on a rainy day.

Where to Dine With Your Dog in the Catskills

Emerson Resort Catskills Mountain Getaway Woodnotes Grille
Woodnotes Grille, Catskills NY

Many restaurants in the Catskills offer dog-friendly outdoor seating during the warmer months. Mama Mia and Fellow Mountain Cafe, right down the street from Scribner’s Lodge in Hunter, NY, offer heated outdoor lamps so you can stay toasty and still dine with your pup.

And when you’re heading to Fellow Mountain Cafe, you must get their famous French Onion Roast Beef sandwich. It is to die for! Just know that they are open for breakfast and lunch only.

But, here are dog-friendly restaurants you must visit in Emerson Resort and Spa. Both have dining areas separated from the main dining rooms and away from food prep areas and other customers so your pup can dine inside with you.

Woodnotes Grille is perfect for breakfast and dinner, and they even have a dog menu! We enjoyed dinner both nights there, and Gatsby savored a perfectly cooked medium-rare grilled steak and burger patty. It was just right for him!

Spa Bites serves up tasty lunches like flatbreads, sandwiches, salads, seasonal specialty cocktails, and a special treat for your dog: a pup cup from their dog menu!

Finally, my other recommendation is Prospect Restaurant, located at Scribner’s Lodge. They have plenty of outdoor seating available. And, during the winter months, they may allow your dog to sit with you inside, in a separate area from other customers and food prep.

In the Catskills, a world of adventure awaits you and your pup. Whether hiking through picturesque landscapes, relaxing at dog-friendly lodgings, or dining together at dog-friendly eateries, these experiences promise you and your pup cherished memories.

Pack your bags and embrace the beauty of the Catskills with your loyal companion by your side!
