If you’re looking for a close dog-friendly weekend getaway near NYC with your pup, I recommend visiting Think Big! A Tiny House Resort. This dog-friendly resort is located in the Catskills in upstate New York, about a two-hour drive from Manhattan. We spent two nights and three days at the resort to get some rest and relaxation. I also wanted to take Gatsby on a bit of adventure.
What’s in the Dog-Friendly Tiny House Resort?
This dog-friendly resort has 11 tiny homes on wheels nestled in the Catskill woods. Depending on which one you choose, they can sleep 2 to 7 people. Each tiny house has its unique name (ours was named Oki). These homes are equipped with a kitchen, full bathroom with a flush toilet, heat/air conditioning, WiFi, T.V. with Netflix so you can binge-watch your favorite shows, a private patio with a gas BBQ grill, and a fire pit.
There’s also an enclosed off-leash play space for your pup. If your pups get dirty from playing, there’s a dog wash to hose them off.

There is a one-time $35 pet fee for each dog you bring.
What to bring to the Tiny House Resort
The resort already provides everything you need! It’s like a mini-hotel on wheels right in the woods! All I brought was Gatsby’s raw food and foods for us to cook and grill.
Things to do at the Tiny House Resort
Take a stroll around the resort’s 28 acres
Take your pup to explore the resort grounds. You’ll arrive at the waterfall if you walk alongside the Catskill creek.
Visit the farm animals
Farm animals are on the property, and chickens and goats roam around free! You might see some wild animals around the area, so keeping your pup on a leash is a good idea.
Check out the snack shack
You’ll find s’mores kits, spices and cooking supplies, mugs, and local artisan products for sale. Some of these items are for purchase through cash or Venmo. You could borrow cooking spices, DVDs, books, and board games during your stay.
Have a BBQ cookout
Each tiny home comes with a gas BBQ grill. We brought some meats to grill and relaxed with some light music at our front deck.
Stargaze with your pup
All wrapped up in a blanket with your pup, stargazing together at night gives you all the feels. ?
Things to do near the Tiny House Resort
Just 15-20 minutes away from the resort, you can drive out to explore cute little towns in Catskills, Hudson, the Saugerties, and lots of hiking trails in the Catskill Mountains.
Hike the Catskill Mountains
Take a 30-minute drive to Kaaterskill Falls Trail Head and hike with your pup!
Visit the Mahayana Buddhist Temple
Walk the grounds of the oldest Buddhist temple on the eastern coast of the United States! You’ll also find a seven-stories-tall Jade Buddha, the only one in the U.S. It’s a great place to reset and practice meditation with your pup.

A Tiny House Resort was such a nice escape from the city! And just under a two hour dive, it makes a perfect dog-friendly weekend getaway near NYC. We relaxed and recharged, and Gatsby spent some time in nature.
