I waited forever for Fall! Now that it’s here, I can finally wear all the jackets, hoodies, and boots I love. Earlier this year, I cleaned my closet because it became too messy and overwhelming. I had a bunch of clothes I wasn’t wearing anymore and some I didn’t even know I had! I decided to put together a fall capsule wardrobe for 2023 with items I know I’ll wear, creating minimal and chic outfits while matching Gatsby’s bandanas and harnesses!
What are capsule wardrobes?
If this is your first time hearing the term “capsule wardrobe,” it’s simply specific and essential clothing pieces that are carefully selected so they can be paired together in endless combinations.
What’s the point of a capsule wardrobe?
When you have a capsule wardrobe, it’s going to save you so much time and money. You don’t have to stand in front of your closet and have that “I have nothing to wear” moment.
Capsule wardrobes are all about high-quality, timeless pieces that never go out of style, so you’re not constantly spending your hard-earned money on trending fast fashion, which then the clothes end up in landfills because you won’t wear them again.
Fewer clothes also mean a more organized closet.

MADEWELL
BLACK LEATHER JACKET
My favorite piece is Madewell’s black leather moto jacket, and it’s a best seller for good reasons! The leather is buttery soft, and this jacket can be dressed casually in sneakers or dressed up with heels like ankle booties. The amount of outfits styled with this jack is endless!
ANINE BING
ARMY JACKET
I am not a fan of bright colors and have always chosen neutral colors for my outfits. This army green jacket adds just a bit of color to my fall capsule collection. My favorite thing about this jacket is the stand-up collar. I can’t wait to pair this army jacket with Gatsby’s One Tigris harness for a military-inspired look.
MADEWELL
DENIM JACKET
Denim jackets never went out of style, and they never will. They are perfect for transitioning from summer to crisp fall days and nights, so it’s an essential piece for any capsule wardrobe. When it gets a bit colder, I like to pair it with a thin, hooded sweatshirt.
REISS
TUXEDO BLAZER
Tuxedo blazers are so elegant and truly timeless. Wear it for date night, a night out for drinks with your girlfriends, or any fancy schmancy occasion. I’ve had this tuxedo blazer for a few years now, and it’s my go-to blazer when I go on date nights with Danny. And yes, I bring Gatsby to dinner, and he wears a fancy black velvet bow tie while we dine outside together.
RAG & BONE
CAMEL COAT
When the leaves fully turn deep colors of orange and red, it’s usually cold enough to wear a camel coat! Wear your camel coat with white or neutral sneakers for a casual day look, and pair them with ankle booties and knee-high boots for a more polished look.
TOPS
A good-fitting short sleeve white t-shirt is essential for any capsule wardrobe. My favorite is the white tees from Madewell. I’ve washed them so many times, and they still look great!
The same goes for a long sleeve tee, and I have one in black.
Satin camisoles are my go-to for a night out under a blazer.
Bodysuits are a must-have! It makes me feel very put together because you won’t need to keep tucking in or fixing your top when you move around.
As for sweaters, I can’t ever keep a cream sweater clean without Gatsby’s paw prints. I love wearing black sweaters, but they show all Gatsby’s fur! That’s why a grey-colored sweater is the best for me and any dog mom with a never-ending shedding dog!
Hooded sweatshirts are great for extra layering when it gets too chilly.
Bottoms
Jeans
For jeans, all you need is a pair of black jeans, light wash destructed mom jeans, and dark washed skinny jeans to create an excellent foundation for your fall capsule collection.
Leggings
I have a pair of faux leather leggings from Spanx, and I think I got them when they first launched! I love wearing them with an oversized sweater and sneakers. Casual or dressed up, the outfits you can create here are endless with these faux leather leggings!
Sundays are for long walks at Central Park with Gatsby, so performance leggings are essential for me. My favorite is the Wunder Under High-Rise Tight 28″ with the Luxtreme fabric because it is the only fabric I’ve found to repel dog hair, so it’s money well spent!
Shoes
Combat boots and especially knee-high boots, will never go out of style! Both of mine are from Stuart Weitzman and have been best sellers for years! You can read about my review for the famous over-the-knee 5050 boot or the Mila Lift combat boot and similar booties with different price points.
I hardly wear high heels these days unless it’s a special occasion or on a date night with Danny without Gatsby coming with us. I just can’t see myself wearing 4 inch heels walking a Siberian Husky around the city! I do have a pair of black suede Stuart Weitzman 85 pumps and they are the only pumps I currently own!
As for sneakers, I chose two pairs – one specialty sneaker from Sam Edelman and one neutral sneaker from Madewell. They are so comfy that I even found myself wearing them all summer!
Accessories
Aviator sunglasses are a must for me. They go so well with any outfit.
As for bags, when I’m out with Gatsby, I carry only the necessities, so you’ll always see me with a simple, minimal belt bag, crossbody, or small shoulder bag.
