Luggage And Packing Essentials For Women
In my earlier traveling days, when I was still working my 9-5 gig, I used an old beat-up hand-me-down luggage that my Mom passed to me for work trips. It wasn’t until recently, in the last few years, that I decided to invest in high-quality luggage.
If you’re like me and thinking of an upgrade, I would suggest getting a standard carry-on, a medium-sized checked suitcase, and a larger checked suitcase. With all these sizes, you will be ready to take on any travel adventure near or far.
The Perfect Carry-On
A chic and functional spinner carry-on with four wheels is an absolute travel essential in the airport or just for going on a road trip. For me, I always opt to pair it with a backpack instead of a tote for lugging my laptop, essentials, and camera gear for content creation. With backpacks, you don’t have to deal with your tote straps falling off, and you are hands-free, which is much needed if you’re like me – traveling with a big dog!
Day Backpack
I have a day backpack/camera bag, and it’s essential for me. This camera bag by Brevite is where I keep all my content creation gear, laptop, and small travel essentials. It’s big enough for me to pack some clothes as well.
Packing Cubes
Packing cubes are a game-changer for me. These little wonders make the most of your space while packing and keep things super neat when you reach your destination. Instead of unloading item by item when I get to the hotel, I can toss my packing cube for sweaters or PJs into a drawer and feel right at home.
I’ve used budget-friendly packing cubes from Amazon in the past, but they aren’t as sturdy as the ones from Beis.
Packable Tote Bag
A foldable tote bag comes in handy for impromptu shopping or as an extra carry-on during your return journey.
Travel Jewelry Organizer
If you are very minimal when wearing jewelry like me, a small travel jewelry organizer will do!
This small travel jewelry case by Mark & Graham is an excellent option if you want to get it personalized with your initials.
A similar one is this cute travel jewelry case by Quince, which is about half the price!
Travel Umbrella
Invest in a high-quality umbrella that won’t break during windy conditions.
Personal Travel Essentials
Don’t forget your wallet, keys, and travel documents like your passport, ID, and health certificate if traveling with your pup.
It’s best to put your personal items in a clear travel pouch. These clear pouches from Amazon are my go-to for electronics, snacks, supplements, and anything small because it’s so much easier to have all your important things in one clear pouch. They are really the easiest way to keep things organized and your important docs dry while on the go.
Travel Journal and Pen
Capture your journey’s memories in a travel journal and jot down your thoughts while you’re on the move. If you’re into digital planners and journals, this travel journal is for you! It has everything you need to plan the trip of your dreams!
Travel Clothing Essentials for Women
Comfy Travel Outfits
While traveling, my go-to is anything athleisure. Leggings with pockets, sweatshirts, and hoodies with a chic coat are cozy and comfortable options.
Packable Puffer
A lightweight, packable puffer is a must! You never know what kind of weather you might run into during your travels, including freezing temps on the plane.
These options are incredibly lightweight and compress down to almost nothing:
Abercrombie Packable Puffer and this budget-friendly one from Amazon for just under $67!
Comfortable Footwear
Prioritize your feet’s happiness! A pair of comfortable shoes is a non-negotiable while you are on the go. I love my lightweight APL slip-ons; they look great with any athleisure travel outfit. When it comes to sightseeing in the cities, I opt for more neutral sneakers with jeans.
Socks
You never know when your feet might crave extra comfort, and having socks on hand during security at an airport is an absolute must. Going barefoot at the airport, even briefly, doesn’t sit right with me. Ugh, I remembered TSA made me take off my sandals on my way to Cancun. Barefoot in the airport is so GROSS! Needless to say, I learned my lesson.
I’m a big fan of Bombas – they fit snugly and offer a cushiony feel, and the brand donates a pair with each purchase!
Swimsuit
Even if you’re headed somewhere cold, don’t forget to bring at least one swimsuit. Maybe there’s an indoor pool at your hotel or you want to spend a day at the spa and a few hours in the sauna. This square neck and low back one piece is a classic.
Beauty Travel Essentials For Women
Here are the women’s beauty travel essentials that I consistently rely on. These tried-and-tested items have earned their place on my packing list through the years.
Toiletry Bag with Miniatures
Clear makeup cases and toiletry bags are a must so you can see exactly what you have without looking around. Get a compact toiletry bag and fill it with travel-sized skincare products, makeup essentials, and hair care items to maintain your routine on the go.
Splurge on this cosmetic case by Truffle, or opt for a budget-friendly dupe from Amazon.
Makeup Essentials
When it comes to makeup, I’m the “no makeup look” kind of girl. So, MERIT will be your go-to brand if you want the same minimalistic look. I am obsessed with their entire collection, and the best thing is that all their products are made with clean ingredients.
MERIT’s five-minute morning collection is what I’m using now, and it’s everything you need to get ready in five minutes!
Skincare Travel Essentials For Women
Traveling will take a toll on your skin, so here are a few skincare essentials I’ve been packing for any trip:
Daily SPF
I regret not using sunscreen when I was younger. These days, I have freckles and sunspots. Ugh. It’s important to use sunscreen even in cold and cloudy destinations. My favorite SPF is by Supergoop because it never leaves that white film on your skin.
Makeup Removing Wipes
Instead of packing my cleansing balm, I use makeup removal wipes and cleanse the skin with a good cleanser that won’t dry out my skin. My go-to makeup removing wipes are the ones by Clinique because they do a real good job at removing waterproof mascara
Hydrating Mask
This hydrating mask from YINA is my go-to after a long trip!
Lip Balm/Mask
A no-brainer, bring a few lip balms to keep your lips hydrated. This lip mask by Ilia is my absolute favorite.
Refillable Travel Capsules
These capsules by Cadence are magnetic, and you can choose to customize the labels on the website. Don’t you think they are so aesthetically pleasing too?!
In-Flight Travel Essentials
Sleep Mask
Here’s a satin sleep mask by Kitsch that really blocks out the light and has anti-aging benefits! The material helps to retain moisture on your skin, which can be beneficial for wrinkle prevention and signs of aging over time. The satin is smooth and cool, feeling incredible on your skin without creasing or leaving marks after wear!
Healthy Snacks
Healthy snacks are an essential travel item on any trip! My go-to is Sakara’s Metabolism Protein Super Bar. Made with chocolate and sea salt, it fuels me when I’m on the go and helps curb sugar cravings.
Hydration Heroes
Staying hydrated is vital when traveling. Invest in a filtered and self-cleaning reusable water bottle. My favorite is the Larq water bottle because it uses UV-C light technology to kill the bacteria and viruses lurking in your bottle.
Don’t forget a hydrating facial mist to refresh your skin throughout your journey!
Tech Essentials
Don’t forget your gadgets! Pack a portable charger, noise-canceling headphones, and your laptop to stay connected and entertained.
Feel like disconnecting during your trip? Bring a Kindle! My Kindle is my ultimate obsession – it lets me pack light without cutting down on the books I can carry.
Travel Wellness Essentials For Women
Travel First Aid Kit
Get yourself a travel-sized first aid kit to be prepared for any minor mishaps! This kit contains essentials like band-aids, pain relievers, and antiseptic wipes. And, don’t worry. It’s TSA approved!
Healing Body Balm
If you always get tech necks and stiff muscles during your travels, this Body Recovery Balm by YINA is for you! Made with ingredients inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine, it smells like a forest in a jar! I never travel without it and keep it in my night drawer for use every night, even at home when I’m not traveling.
Battery Operated Toothbrush
I ALWAYS brushed my teeth after a long flight. I feel so gross when I don’t! Brush your teeth right before your arrival. It’s a game changer after a long trip on the plane or even on the road. This one by Philips is the perfect budget-friendly battery operated toothbrush.
Resistance Bands
Resistance bands are great for quick workouts and help you stay toned while traveling when no gym is on-site. I love these bands from Arena Strength, specifically their booty bands!
Sunglasses
Sunglasses might not be a flight necessity, but they could become your post-landing heroes. They come in handy when the windows let in the sun’s rays or you want to tune out your surroundings. Trust me; it’s a small favor to yourself – never leave those shades behind. I would get some cheap sunglasses instead of bringing the expensive ones on the flight.
Earplugs
I still remember that one sleepless night when I visited Boston. There was a crying baby next door, and never again would I not bring earplugs with me on any trip. They are also a lifesaver on the plane! These ultrasoft ones by Macks are the best!
Electrolytes
When traveling, using electrolytes (sodium, potassium, and magnesium) can keep you hydrated, help your muscles function, and ensure your energy levels are up for a smooth and fun trip.
You can lose these essential electrolytes when you’re out exploring, trying new foods, or sweating more because of the weather. Adding them back in can stop you from feeling tired, getting muscle cramps, or having trouble with the heat.
Creator Travel Essentials
Travel Camera For Blogging, Vlogging, and Photos
You can use your phone for photos and videos these days. But if you’re looking for the perfect compact camera for travel photos and vlogging, the SONY ZV-1 Mark II is my go-to camera. With a built-in much wider 18mm field of view, it’s excellent for vlogging and opens up some interesting photo opportunities.
Tripod
This lightweight tripod will help you get the perfect shots or footage! You can attach your phone or a compact camera like the SONY ZV-1 Mark II. It also comes with a remote to take photos alone if traveling solo.
External Hard Drive
Taking lots of photos and videos? I always back them up with the rugged external hard drive by Lacie. With 5TB of storage, you will never worry about running our of space!
Travel Safety Essentials for Women
Given that TSA won’t let items like pepper spray or pocket knives through, the products listed below are much more helpful in enhancing your sense of security during your upcoming travels.
Personal Alarm Keychain
Opt for this personal alarm as a reliable alternative to pepper spray when navigating solo. Just pull the pin, and a loud alarm will go off, scaring away anyone who might be up to no good and letting others know there’s an emergency. It’s that simple!
Also, I love the gold keychain for a more aesthetic look.
Portable Door Lock
If you’re staying in a hotel or Airbnb alone or just paranoid like me, these portable door locks are your go-to for that peace of mind. This gadget makes sure no one sneaks in – and I mean not even if they’ve got a key!
Apple Air Tag
I have so many Apple Air Tags! With travel ramping up again more than ever, airlines seem to lose people’s checked luggage in record numbers. When my Mom traveled to Asia solo, I put an Apple Air Tag in every suitcase she had. And she’s glad I did because Cathay Pacific lost her luggage when she was going to Hong Kong. Thankfully, the Apple Air Tags were able to locate it.
Throwing an Apple AirTag in your bag is a way to keep tabs on where your bags are even when the airlines can’t figure it out. It might just save the day!
Travel Essentials For Your Dog
Are you planning a trip with your dog? Isn’t it so exciting?! I LOVE traveling with my Husky, Gatsby. My dream is to take him to Paris, which is in the works. I want to show him the world! When it comes to packing, it’s more than just grabbing essentials—it’s about making sure my dog is happy and able to overcome any obstacles during our trip. Let’s dive into the must-have travel essentials for your dog so they are safe, comfortable, and ready for an unforgettable trip.
Health Certificates & Documents
Always carry your dog’s health certificates or any health documents with you. Not only are they needed to cross any borders, but you will need them in case of an accident, and you must take your dog to an emergency vet (so the emergency hospital gets an overview of your dog’s health history). Aside from a hard copy, I also saved this to my phone.
Dog Travel Bag
Yes! Gatsby has his own travel bag by Ruffwear, and I love it. It’s big enough to carry all his must-haves, has a nice wide opening to load and unload quickly, and is waterproof and durable.
Mushers Paw Balm
Rub this paw wax on right before you guys head on your adventure. It acts like an invisible boot, forming a breathable shield against sand, hot pavement, snow & salt, so your dog can mush, hike, hunt, or play safely in any conditions.
First Aid Kit
You never know what’s going to happen during your travels. This emergency kit is a must-have when traveling with your dog. It should also be kept in your car, not only when you decide to go on a road trip. The kit comes with medical supplies for you AND your pup.
Harness
A padded and comfortable harness is your best bet when traveling with your dog. Ruffwear’s front-range harness is our adventure and everyday harness.
GPS and Health Tracker
Whistle Go Explore Pet GPS and Health Tracker – You’ll see this device on my dog Gatsby in every photo, except when he’s at home. This is the “Find your iPhone” and “Fit Bit” in one device for your dog! Imagine your pup got loose on a road trip and ran away?! With this device, you’ll be able to track your pup’s location and their health and fitness 24/7. This device also has a super bright light and has been great for walking around at night.
Apple Air Tag
I told you I was paranoid. I have an Apple Air tag as a backup if Gatsby’s GPS and Health Tracker battery is exhausted.
Rain Jacket
If you have a dog with double-coated fur, you must pack a rain jacket for them. And don’t let the rain stop you and your dog from exploring! Put on the rain jacket and go out there to enjoy your travels!
Water Bottle
It’s essential to keep your dog hydrated during long travels. Invest in a self-cleaning and filtered water bottle by Larq. This is essential because it allows Gatsby access to clean water even when we fill up the bottle at drinking fountains.
Collapsible Water Bowl
This collapsible water bowl from Amazon saves space, is lightweight, and can clip onto your backpack.
Healthy Snacks
These healthy freeze-dried raw treats by Vital Essentials will keep your pup from being too hungry on long trips.
CBD Oil
If your dog gets anxious easily, try giving them high-quality CBD supplements an hour before your trip to keep them calm and relaxed. Make sure you speak to your vet first and ask if giving your pup CBD supplements is OK. Gatsby’s vet was OK with it and recommended CBD oil for his first long road trip to Canada.
