A Luxurious Stay at Lake Placid Lodge
Lake Placid Lodge is part of the Opal Collection, which is a group of luxury hotels and resorts located in various destinations across the United States. Opal Collection properties are known for their upscale accommodations, fine dining, spa services, and a focus on providing exceptional guest experiences!
Now, let’s talk about the experience of staying at Lake Placid Lodge’s upscale dog-friendly cabins during the winter season:
Cozy Cabins
We stayed at the Eagles Eyre Cabin, where we had breathtaking views of Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain. The cabin’s interior was a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern luxury. It featured a king-sized bed, a crackling fireplace, and plush furnishings, providing a warm and cozy atmosphere for you and your dog to unwind.
Lake Placid Lodge Pet Policy:
- Dogs can only stay in one and two-bedroom cabins.
- There is a fee of $100 per night per dog, with a maximum of two dogs per room.
- Dogs must be leashed at all times.
- Dogs must be crated if left unattended in the cabins.
Dog-Friendly Amenities
The Opal Collection and Lake Placid Lodge have teamed up to create something really cool – the Opal Paws program. It’s all about making your pet feel like a VIP on their vacation. Think welcome kits with treats and toys, plush beds, and extra perks just for your pup. So, whether you’re out exploring Lake Placid or just relaxing in your cozy cabin, you know your dog is getting the superstar treatment, thanks to the Opal Collection’s awesome pet-friendly program at Lake Placid Lodge.
Gourmet Dining
The Lodge’s dining options and services were outstanding. We visited during February, and it was absolutely freezing! So, there was no way we could dine at the outdoor patio, even with the heated lamps.
The staff made special accommodations for us by setting up a private dining room just so Gatsby could join us for dinner. It was such a fantastic experience!
We enjoyed a farm-to-table dinner at Artisans Restaurant and then had cocktails by the fire at Maggie’s Pub.
Outdoor Activities On Lake Placid Lodge Property
Lake Placid Lodge’s property offers 30 acres for you to explore. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and sledding are a few activities you can enjoy. All the equipment is at the lodge’s front entrance and you can just borrow it and return it later after your adventure. I hooked up Gatsby on a long lead, experienced snowshoeing with him, and tried to have him pull me on a sled. As a spoiled husky, I think he forgot that his ancestors were working sled dogs!

Go Dog-Sledding on Mirror Lake
In the winter, Mirror Lake freezes over, creating a stunning backdrop for a nice walk with your pup. The ice is typically groomed for skating, and you can rent ice skates or even try dog sledding for a unique experience.
As a husky and winter lover, you already know I HAD to go dog-sledding! My husband and I took turns staying with Gatsby on the sidelines so we could enjoy the dog sledding experience.

We wanted to try Lisa G’s for lunch, but unfortunately, they were closed on the day we visited.

Practical Tips for a Winter Stay
- Remember to pack booties and musher’s paw wax to protect your dog’s paws from the cold and snow.
- Opt for a harness instead of a collar so they can explore in comfort.
- Keep your dog on a leash when exploring the trails, and be sure to clean up after them.
- Check the Lodge’s pet policy in advance and inform them of any special requirements or requests for your pet. For example, we made sure we had a refrigerator in our cabin to store Gatsby’s raw food.
