We stayed at the Eagles Eyre Cabin, where we had breathtaking views of Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain. The cabin’s interior was a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern luxury. It featured a king-sized bed, a crackling fireplace, and plush furnishings, providing a warm and cozy atmosphere for you and your dog to unwind.

Gourmet Dining

The Lodge’s dining options and services were outstanding. We visited during February, and it was absolutely freezing! So, there was no way we could dine at the outdoor patio, even with the heated lamps.

The staff made special accommodations for us by setting up a private dining room just so Gatsby could join us for dinner. It was such a fantastic experience!

We enjoyed a farm-to-table dinner at Artisans Restaurant and then had cocktails by the fire at Maggie’s Pub.

Outdoor Activities On Lake Placid Lodge Property

Lake Placid Lodge Outdoor Activities

Lake Placid Lodge’s property offers 30 acres for you to explore. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and sledding are a few activities you can enjoy. All the equipment is at the lodge’s front entrance and you can just borrow it and return it later after your adventure. I hooked up Gatsby on a long lead, experienced snowshoeing with him, and tried to have him pull me on a sled. As a spoiled husky, I think he forgot that his ancestors were working sled dogs!

Go Dog-Sledding on Mirror Lake

Dog Sledding at Mirror Lake

In the winter, Mirror Lake freezes over, creating a stunning backdrop for a nice walk with your pup. The ice is typically groomed for skating, and you can rent ice skates or even try dog sledding for a unique experience.

As a husky and winter lover, you already know I HAD to go dog-sledding! My husband and I took turns staying with Gatsby on the sidelines so we could enjoy the dog sledding experience.

Head to Town

The village of Lake Placid

Take a stroll around the charming village center and you’ll find a some adorable shops, cozy cafes, and dog-friendly restaurants. Feel the warm hospitality, and see the local arts filled with the culture and heritage of the region.

A few restaurants in Lake Placid offer outdoor seating with heated lamps that welcome furry companions during the winter. The Cottage, Lake Placid Pub & Brewery, and Lisa G’s are just a few spots where you can enjoy a meal with your dog by your side.

We wanted to try Lisa G’s for lunch, but unfortunately, they were closed on the day we visited.

Lake Placid Activities for Spring, Summer, and Fall Other Than Hiking

Fishing: Lake Placid is famous for its amazing rainbow trout, making it a top spot for fishing in Upstate New York. Bring your fresh fish back to the lodge when you’re done catching some for the day. The talented chefs will work their magic and turn your catch into a delicious dinner for you and your pup to savor.

Mountain Biking: Whiteface Mountain is known as a premier skiing destination. It transforms into a mountain biker’s dream during the warmer months, with 27 trails to explore.

Horseback Riding: Head to Emerald Springs Ranch in Saranac Lake for horseback riding. They offer trail rides for riders of all levels.

Whitewater Rafting: Not a great dog-friendly activity, but if you can have a friend or two stay back at the cabin, you and others can experience whitewater rafting on the Hudson River from March to June. Just ask Lake Placid Lodge’s concierge to help you book this adventure.

Rock Climbing: Also not a dog-friendly activity, but you can have a friend stay at the bottom while you climb high up for breathtaking views of the Adirondacks. Wave at your pup when you make it to the top!

Practical Tips for a Winter Stay

Siberian Husky in the snow
  • Remember to pack booties and musher’s paw wax to protect your dog’s paws from the cold and snow.
  • Opt for a harness instead of a collar so they can explore in comfort.
  • Keep your dog on a leash when exploring the trails, and be sure to clean up after them.
  • Check the Lodge’s pet policy in advance and inform them of any special requirements or requests for your pet. For example, we made sure we had a refrigerator in our cabin to store Gatsby’s raw food.
